JOY (Senior Adults)

JOY, which stands for Just Older Youth, is a group of senior adults who have been meeting at the church for 28 years. Originally call the Hill Toppers and then Seniors of Christ, this faithfully active group is a mainstay of CUMC.

When the church began in 1961, it was comprised of mainly thirty-something’s. By 1977 the church membership had grown and there was a need for fellowship for the retired group. The UMW, seeing this need, organized a meeting that was attended by nineteen people interested in forming a seniors group. The idea behind the group was to provide “Fellowship and Fun in a Christian Way.” That was the beginning of what is now called the JOY group. And, nearly 30 years later, this group has stayed true to this motto.

Fellowship. Fellowship. Fellowship. That is what answer you get when you ask the members of JOY what they like most about their group. This group averages around 120 each month for their monthly luncheon! In addition to Sunday School classes, they have choir, missions, bridge, trips & outings and so much more.
